Community & Government Affairs Division

  • Public Policy & Economic Development

Mission: The focus of this task force is to identify, review and discuss issues and legislation of all levels of government which could affect our economic/business climate. The task force hears business and community issues and determines the appropriate forum for educating the memberships. They make recommendations for support or opposition to the Board of Directors. This group will focus on Low Income/Affordable Housing, Zoning Ordinances & Development Fees, the new Research & Technology Park, and a proposed School Bond.

  • Downtown Issues

Mission: When issues are identified that will have an impact on the downtown, the Chamber works with the Historic Downtown Group to foster an economic climate in which small businesses can flourish and thrive.

  • Water

Mission: The purpose of this task force is to keep the membership and community informed on water issues that affect the quantity and quality of Woodland’s water supplies. The committee continues to seek viable solutions to flood protection, drought mitigation, and other water problems through education and programs.

  • Workforce Development

Mission: The purpose of the Chamber’s Business Education Committee is to act as a catalyst for industry and education.  The committee will collaborate on a Job Fair with the Yolo County Health & Human Resources Department and partner with the City of Woodland to expand the Youth Industry Tours program. We assist with the Lee Middle School Spring Career Fair. This task force will develop and implement Workforce Development Programs with ALMS, the City, WIB (Workforce Innovation Board), WJUSD, Yolo County Office of Education, and Woodland Community College.

Special Events & Programs Division

  • The Golf Tournament

This group plans the annual Spring golf tournament held at the Yocha Dehe Golf Club located in the beautiful Capay Valley.

  • Farm-City Event

To recognize the Chamber’s support of agriculture and acknowledge our Agri-Business community, this task force is responsible for creating and hosting an Annual Farm & City Fundraising Event in the Fall. The Agri-Business Person of the Year will be recognized and honored.  An Outstanding FFA Student from Yolo County will also be selected and awarded the Chamber’s Agri-Business Scholarship. Additionally, the Twyla J. Thompson Women in Agriculture Award & Scholarship will be presented to a Woodland Community College student.

  • Holiday Parade

The planning for the annual Holiday Parade held in December does take most of the year, one meeting per month. This holiday tradition is known as the "Miracle on Main Street", and it brings more than 20,000 people to the city.
